Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hi Chip upgrade

    Hi
I am new to the forum.
Just got my new Mark VI GtI (3 dr DSG).
I am quite keen to get the chip upgrade but have a few questions.
Does anyone have any recommendations for the Sydney area?
Should I wait until the engine is broken in?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Cheers

why don't you enjoy your car as it is for 6-12+ months before you chip it? I know with my WRX i appreciated it stock and then with each improvement i had further enjoyment with the changes. Just my opinion though.

Thanks for the very pragmatic and sensible response.
I tend to be very impatient and impulsive.
I suppose I am curious as to how quick and fun these cars can be.

definitely wait til the engine is broken in. Also warranty becomes a big issue on chipped cars. So before you start playing around with it, make sure there are no issued pre-chip. If you havent driven a quick car before, get used to it before you kill yourself. These cars are pocket rockets when done up and should not be taken lightly. The day I left a VY SS and a 33skyline for dead, they were not impressed at the next set of lights.

I've read there are good gains to be made from the chip...

i wouldnt mine the chip either... I wondering how it compares to an aftermarket computer though....
