Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • GTI VI Acceleration Rattle

    Hi All,
I'm new to this forum and posting stuff, so please bear with me !
I've read a few post about the GTI VI acceleration rattle issue and I've had this problem since I got the car new 3 months ago. Been back to dealer many times and they even replaced the entire CAT and half the exhaust system before reading their own VW service notice saying it's a normal function of the turbo waste gate flap or some crap like that. The dealer can't fix it and it (the rattle noise)drive's me insane ! Does anyone, anywhere have a fix for this problem ? VW dealers attitude is totally unaceptable also. Thanks, Paul.

    Welcome!

When I test drove the mk6 i never noticed any rattle upon accelaration, however in saying that, I had the same issue with my mk5. Turned out it was the bolt in my engine mount that cannot be reused once it was loosened to fit my engine mount insert.

Take a look at all your bolts, including mounts and subframe. Because to change the exhaust, these bolts have to be removed to get in there.

Thanks for the suggestion I will take a look, although I've had the problem from day one before they change the exhaust.
