  • NSW Hi all. Mitsi Galant VR4 owner looking to downsize

Hi all. After lurking and researching I've decided to join up. Lots of great info on here.

I'm looking to downsize to a Golf VR6 in the near future as my partner and I are gearing up to buy our first home. We've even done the dreaded 'move back in with family' thing to save cash and if anyone here has done that...you know our pain!

I currently have an 8th gen Mitsi Galant VR4, imported from Jap-land. Great car, but just too expensive to maintain when you're buying a house.

If anyone has any tips or leads on VR6's for sale (besides on here and carsales) that'd be supremely appreciated!

Here's hoping I can find a nice VR6 to move on into soon and perhaps attend a cruise

    Cheers!

    Welcome to the forum!

Don't mean to try and burst your bubble, but VR6's are by no means cheap to maintain.
    They're not particularly reliable either.

My 2¢, get a base model MK3 or MK4 with manual windows, manual transmission etc. if you're adamant you want a Golf.
Otherwise, VR6's and MK3's in general can be very, very deep money pits, certainly not a car I'd buy if money was very tight.

But good luck. I hope you find a good, cheap, reliable car, and prove me wrong.

No don't be sorry mate. This is exactly the kind of advice I was hoping for.

I will definitely take that into consideration. The reason I was considering the VR6 moreso was because I will have to go up and down a very steep mountain road every day and the extra torque would really come in handy.

However, if they're not that reliable and/or expensive to maintain, I might as well keep what I have or find something else. Thanks for the honest advice

On the up-hill note; they chew fuel a fair bit too. The sound is addictive, hence more fuel/license consumption.
I'll never own a modern VW again, that is absolutely certain. If I want a car with power it will most likely be Nissan or Toyota.
