Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Jetta 77kw tdi with DSG

    Hi everyone.
Just got one of these and am generally very pleased apart from a speedo which seems about 8.5% fast (6.5% fast on the trip computer digital readout) through the whole range as checked by 2 different Garmin GPSs. Not the Teutonic accuracy I would have expected.

Also it has a feature it seems that automatically puts throttle input to the engine independently of the manual throttle position. When cruising along level and starting up a hill, power is added and coversely starting down a hill power is pulled off. You feel this in the seat of your pants and is confirmed by the instantaneous fuel flow reading on the trip computer. (whilst foot hasn't moved )
Annoying. When the beautifull cruise control is engaged you don't notice it of course
Anyone care to comment? Maybe its only on the "baby" diesel model? Or DSG models? Or models with cruise control fitted?
    Rory.

      Thanks Anthony
My silver Jetta replaced a midnight blue Hyundai i30 1.6 litre diesel manual; a great car. I wanted an automatic and was "sucked in" by the 7 speed DSG. The formidable write ups on the Golf GTI for many years now had me interested; but alas it's boot wasn't big enough for my daughters guitar case. The "Golf with a boot" slogan got me in. I doubt the handling of my Jetta could be compared with that of a GTI; but I feel its a sure footed handler , more so than the Korean aspirant
I like the "diesel" drive and found the 1.6 litre Hyundai had all the performance I needed, so easily decided the 1.6 VW would suffice. What VW is yours? Rory.

I have owned a total of 4 Jettas,my last one also being a Silver 2.0 FSI automatic, which was very sadly written off last month due to the hail storm in March.
        I cried for 2 days...lol.

Deceided on a change, and have just replaced it with a MY2011 Honda Accord Euro, which I am VERY impressed with, also an awesome car.

I think the Jetta will be a big upgrade from the Hyundai...???

From the i30 to the Jetta is a big upgrade in handling on tour. The i30 (a very good car) was a car I found I had to "drive" on long trips, the Jetta seems more stable and to take less effort.Maybe the DSG helps. The boot size increase is great for what I usually carry; daughter's guitar gear when going busking etc
Have read a lot of awesome reports on the Honda Accord Euro, especially in the auto. Congratulations.
In the past I have had 3 new Hondas; a Civic Shuttle, Integra and Accord, all great cars. I replaced the Accord with a Mitsubishi Lancer GSR 4wd turbo as I had a sudden urge for keeping up with the V8 boys but being too stingy to buy lots of fuel. I still have the GSR, 17 years old with 350 000ks . It still goes like stink.

Rory you have had a great selection of cars.

My first car was a 1982 Ford Cortina,I had 4 Jettas,2 in South Africa,1 in America, and 1 in Oz,a Holden Astra Olympic edition sedan, and now the new Euro.
