Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD MK5 Jetta TDI Owner Signing in.

Hey guys, found the watercooled forums via vwgolf.net.au.

Recently been added to VW ownership, just purchased an arthricite (sp?) grey, 12/08 Jetta 2.0L TDI with DSG, road worthy done and registered today which was a lot of fun. The car has only traveled 42,000km and still has 18months remaining on the factory warranty, so its still feeling pretty new to drive.

Already interested in its first mod, bluefin/superchips has piqued my interest, not so much for the power gain, but rather the owners seem to report part throttle response is quite smooth/linear, getting rid of what little turbo lag it has. Combined with the reported leaner running, will probably head down that way after the DSG service comes up soon.

Bit late for pics tonight, but Ill grab some tomorrow.

Only one question at the moment, how do you mk5 owners have your number plates mounted to the front? in having a look at mine I was pretty shocked to find that they simply used a couple of self tapping/tek screws and put it right through the front chrome bumper section. Seems like a pretty shoddy way to fix a numberplate to a car? Did they originally come with some kind of mount from the factory? or is it pretty much a case of fit it any way you can?

Hello and welcome! Great to see another Jetta TDI owner up here, we need more reppin.

      In response to your comments:
Firstly (and without going into detail), the ECU upgrade does wonders for acceleration etc. But I've found it does quite the opposite of eliminating turbo lag. PM me if you would like to know more

And secondly, all Jetta's prior to MY09 didn't have a factory number plate bracket/mount. They basically came completely bare and relied on the dealer to create holes to hang the plates from.

      Keep on Dubbin,

      Alex.
