Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hi, I'm new here. I've been driving a 2000 model Golf MkIV (2 litre petrol) for about 18 months now. It's a 5 door black one with leather interior and I'm pretty happy with it overall. A bit sluggish but it makes up for that with excellent fuel economy so I haven't tampered with the engine (yet. I owned my first Golf back in 1977. It was my first car, a 3-door 1.6 GLS, and I loved that car. Owned it for 13 years, sold it with close to 500,000kms on the clock. Never had the head off. Drove it into the ground. Just did some mods to my suspension - Tokico shocks and springs, White Line swaybars front and rear. Vast improvement. Next come new wheels and rubber. I'm posting a thread about that, so I hope to hear from you over on that one, or right here. I've never been a member of an automotive forum before, other than for my motorcycle (a Honda VTR1000 FireStorm) but I have found the OzFireStorm forum to be brilliant. Hope this place is half as helpful!
    Cheers,
    MartinX

    welcome mate
    mk4's are a nice car!

dont really want to pop your bubble here, but tinkering with the 2L is a bit of a pointless venture when the GTI is SO cheap and tuneable

Stick around, there is quite a lot of useful info on here (sometimes you have to sift through some other stuff first)

    Again, Welcome!

Thanks. Yeah, like I said, I don't plan doing anything to the donk. I use this car for my work ,and I like it's fuel economy, so if it aint broke... I just don't like a car to wallow, so I'm looking at the handling end of things. It's already way better. I've always wanted a GTI though, and I figure I'll buy a secondhand MkVI in a few years. Or maybe a MkV? As long as it's a 3-door...
