Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD Garage emissions

Been a VW Jetta (DSG, 2L) owner for 4 years. Reasonably happy until I go a garage emissions message. Took it back to the dealer and he charged me $132 to change a fuse. 6 weeks later it happens again. So I replace the fuse - cheaper that way. 4 weeks later happens again. Car is performing OK, no overheating, fuel consumption 5.1/100 all OK - so I wait until 90,000km service. Dealer says new fan control unit. $823 later I go to pick up - sorry wasn't just that its now "flap valve regulator" - another $800 please. All I wanted was the warning light out which wasn't worth $1600 to me so I said get lost as nothing wrong with car. Contacted VW through their web site - no reply.
Seems to me that if I can get the flap thing disconnected the fuse won't blow and the fan may work. Does anyone know if this is feasible? Is this flap just for extreme conditions? Temp. here is never below 5C or rarely above 30C and I've already apparently been through one summer without a fan.
