Great forum, have been a fan for a while and finally got around to joining.

I been a Golf fan for years with my first car a 1979 2door Golf. After driving it for a couple I bought another Mk1, this time an auto and pulled my original car off the road. My Mk1 project began, back in 1996................. It is still going, the project that is, not the car yet.

My auto Mk1 is long gone. I actually had it towed to the wreckers after a number of incidents (catching on fire TWICE, losing all forward gears in peak hour & driving home in reverse - very funny story).

Having been working on and off this car since pulling it off the road in 1996. The car is a 1979 2 door which was actually my first car. Why is it taken so long. Life happened. Got married, the usual stuff.

I have replaced the old 1.6 carby engine with a Mk2 GTI injected power plant from GTI Imports. We had the block bored out to 1.9L and used audi piston. Head had the usual port and polish & big cam. ECU for fuel injection has been replaced with Haltec. Picked up a ANSA exhaust, including headers.

Had various engine bay components and suspension parts powered coated, fuel tank replaced for EFI and brakes upgraded to Mk2 GTI specs.

Still haven't turned the motor over yet. Have some minor electronics to complete.
