Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Uprgrading the old My00 Wrx To A Golf R32 (DSG Mk V), Golf R32 owners please respond!

    Hi All,

My name is Paul and im new to VWWatercooled. The reason i have joined this forum is becasue i have now grown up and am defecting from Japanese to European!! Looking at purchasing an R32 in DSG.

The time has come to sell my beloved MY00 WRX. Ive had the car for 6 years and im now ready to move on to something more 'European'.

Im highly considering buying a second hand Golf R32 5dr in DSG. Im after feedback from members who currently own or have owned a MK V R32... Im after some general feedback (Performance, options, rarity etc) as i particularly would like to know if you would have purchased a Golf GTi instead given the opportunity?? Also, as you are all probably aware, if i purchased a MK V GTi i could save myself approximately $8-10K so i need to know if the R32 is worth the extra!!!

    Any comments will be appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Paul

Welcome mate, when your post count is up list it in the relevant section of the forum. There has been 4+ years worth of threads RE: MkV's. Between here, goolfmkv.com and vwgolf.net.au you should be able to find all the info you desire.

Re: rarity. If you want rarity get a mk4 R32, there are less than 200 in the country.
Is cash is tight, the GTI is more than enough, great machine. If you have a bit to play with, treat yourself to the AWD (similar to the WRX) and the noise (you thought a rex sounded good!).

      Thanks for the reply schoona.

I need the DSG as i want the GF to be able to drive it and have also experienced the DSG gearbox in the GTi and think its world class!!

Money isnt really the issue, its just the principle of saving a wad of cash by getting a similar car for $10K cheaper... But there sure are a s$!t load of GTi's on the road these days, with respect to R32's, out there dont you agree?

I realise the sound and AWD system is priceless and will be test driving the R32 this weekend to try and sway me more towards it!

      Thanks for your comment.
