    Hi there,

I've found this forum by google searching some pics of Golf GTI Mk1 and I just stopped at Pete's "Wreck to Race".
So I remembered my own work more than 20 years ago with my GTI, build in 1977.
I disassembled it completely and built it up nearly new. Restored body, and tuned up engine (1.6 ltr., from 82kW up to nearly 96 or 97 kW).
    Some modifications:
Headlights from Taifun (Germany) double-rectangular lights.
Suspension from Sachs/Koni in combination with Wockenfuss springs. Company Wockenfuss doesn't exist any more since mid of the eighties.
Front axle: -60 or -70 mm, rear axle -10 or 20 mm (I added a second rubber bump between shock absorber and dome for v-profile).
Wheels: ATS Super Cup 7x15", ET (I don't now the english expression) 20 mm. Center in Diamond black metallic (same as the rear body) and polished rim.
    And now the highlight:
Paint: front in "Pop violeta metallico" from VW Brazil, changing backwards into "Diamond black metallic".

My heart is aching while thinking of this beautiful car. I miss it.

Probably I will have somewhere a pic in black and white of the car. I will have a look.

And now I'm glad to have found some car car crazy guys just like me, in "down under".
    Amazing!

I'm looking forward to hear or read more of you.
    CU.

        Hi Jarred,

perfect german. Thank you for your welcome in german. If you need, we can just improve your german....
I will look for the only pic I just have. All other pics are gone for the valuation report after the boat crash.
Perhaps I can make a scan and add the colors with photoshop.... Let's see.

        Hi Peter,

due to my job at TRW automotive I'm just getting also more international. But famous???? Not me, I fear.....
My first car was a Mk1, build in 1975, 1.4 ltr, 52kW, colour "Marinogelb", a kind of orange.
Then I had a BMW 1602 in pidgeon blue. It was a nice car, but worse to drive: rear wheel drive. It crashed during some rain on an old rocky road when its back was breaking out.
After that I came back to VW with my marvellous GTI! I owned it nearly 8 years. During restoration I had a Ford Escort Mk2.
Then 2 VW Passat 32b with the Audi 2.0 ltr. 5-cylinder engine.
And then I lost the VW-connection: GM Opel Omega A (Cavalier) and the last car is my Zafira since 8 years.
The Smart is owned by my wife, but I use it for my daily ride to work.

So this is my car history.
