Hi there,
I've found this forum by google searching some pics of Golf GTI Mk1 and I just stopped at Pete's "Wreck to Race".
So I remembered my own work more than 20 years ago with my GTI, build in 1977.
I disassembled it completely and built it up nearly new. Restored body, and tuned up engine (1.6 ltr., from 82kW up to nearly 96 or 97 kW).
Some modifications:
Headlights from Taifun (Germany) double-rectangular lights.
Suspension from Sachs/Koni in combination with Wockenfuss springs. Company Wockenfuss doesn't exist any more since mid of the eighties.
Front axle: -60 or -70 mm, rear axle -10 or 20 mm (I added a second rubber bump between shock absorber and dome for v-profile).
Wheels: ATS Super Cup 7x15", ET (I don't now the english expression) 20 mm. Center in Diamond black metallic (same as the rear body) and polished rim.
And now the highlight:
Paint: front in "Pop violeta metallico" from VW Brazil, changing backwards into "Diamond black metallic".
My heart is aching while thinking of this beautiful car. I miss it.
Probably I will have somewhere a pic in black and white of the car. I will have a look.
And now I'm glad to have found some car car crazy guys just like me, in "down under".
Amazing!
I'm looking forward to hear or read more of you.
CU.
Tobi
