An ex owner of a GTI MKV tossing up whether to buy a Mk V R32 or MkVI GTI. I absolutely loved my old GTI and the MkV shape so seemed natural to pick up a runout MkV R32. Today I looked at the MkVI GTI and despite not been taken with the look (particularly the front) it was kind of nice inside. Interested to know what others thought. Should I snap up a cheap R32 or jump to the GTI mkVI? Or maybe I should wait for the R20. So many choices

Personally I'd take a GTI over an R32 any day. I think they do everything better apart from the exhaust note. 4WD is really for the wank factor in Australia because of our weather and speed limits. Anyone driving their car to the point of actually needing the 4wd on public roads probably shouldn't be driving on public roads.
As for the R20, go take an S3 for a test drive. It's about as similar a drive to an R20 as you'll get for the time being.

good luck waiting for the Golf R!! Unless you order one ASAP when they do come out. But you won't get a golf R till much at least 6 months.
Gti vs R32... it is personal preference really, i like the gti look, the R32 doesn't look as good... 3.2l vs 2l Turbo...
Like OP said, i don't like the mk6 either, the front is ugly. The interior is nicer but does that compensate for the exterior? in my opinion no.
So i got the best deal out of both, pirelli is faster than the mk6 gti, yet i get to keep the old shape.
Golf R is good to a certain extent, it is still not the prettiest car.
Maybe you can go the extreme and import a Sirocco R from new zealand like one of the guys on another forum did, i think it will be around 70k, which is pretty much the same price as the Golf R.
Or you can go for the S3, but S3 is hardly the best looking car either.
