  • NSW New Sydney Bora V5 owner!

    Hi!

This evening I am picking up a 2002 Bora V5 and pretty excited about it! I have owned quite a variety of cars over the years but never a VW, so something very new for me. Would have liked to have got a 4motion having test driven one a few years ago and being very impressed, sadly my budget wouldn't stretch at this time. I think the V5 will be a good experience though!

The car is currently stock, dark blue with tan leather. It needs a service and I will be checking out the fans very carefully having read all the info about failures! Then I am planning an audio upgrade and window tinting to get me started.

Tons of info on this site to keep my occupied so will be trawling for some time and will try not to ask questions without searching first, although there doesn't seem to be a way to search within a specific forum so the mass of results is hard to get through, or did I miss that?

    See you on the road!

Picked up the car and extremely happy with it! Drives so nicely, feels like a much larger car and is quick when it needs to be too.

I got this car basically at trade price, they sold it to me at the price a dealer was going to give them as part-ex on their new car, they did that because they thought a) the electric mirrors had a fault (turns out to be normal behaviour!), b) it needed a service (which is doesn't for another 5000km!) and c) there is a problem with the cooling fans.

So the cooling fans is a known common issue and I think it may be suffering from this, need to investigate further to confirm. Checked the fuses on top of the battery and they are in perfect condition, no sign of overheat there.

As it doesn't need a service yet I have gone ahead and ordered an Alpine iXA-W407EBT head unit.

Just confirmed that neither fan is operating at low speed, well known issue I know! I think I will have a go at the DIY external resistor fix for this.
