  • ACT Newbie - importing Bora TDI 150 to Oz

    Hi all,

Left the sinking ship called NZ last year and have finally made arrangements to bring over my wheels. She's a 2004 Bora TDI 150 chipped to 180hp/370nm, 6 speed manual, leather/alcantara interior, 17" factory rims and done just over 50,000kms.

Flew back a few weeks ago to drop it off to the shipping agent. It's setting sail this Sunday and hopefully will be ready to pick up from Port Kembla on about the 23rd. Then it will be a matter of somehow getting it to Canberra to be registered. A late night run using its NZ plates might be on the cards!

Some enhancements are being planned for the near future starting with doing something about the boat-ish stock suspension. Looking at maybe a Neuspeed Cup Kit at this stage.

Wonder if it'll be the only TDI Bora in Oz??

    Cheers!

    Nice one!

The guys from CVWC, Belconnen or Tuggeranong should be able to help you out with any mods you are thinking about - or at lest point you in the right direction.

Will keep an eye out for it on the streets

    Cheers,

      Very nice Bora.
Was this model sold new in New Zealand ?
Only the 2.0,V5,and 2.8 4 motions were available here, but lots of Jetta TDIs.
      Enjoy it over here.

          Thanks guys.

Actually the Bora wasn't sold at all in NZ - the ones there are all used imports of some kind. This car has an interesting history - it was actually first registered in NSW and owned by VW Australia, then sold to a NZ VW dealer and shipped over when it had done 9000kms. There was another black TDI that was sent over at the same time. Might have been used for real-world trials or something. Who knows?

Mate, for the cost of a car carrier to carry it to Canberra, it ain't worth the risk of driving it with NZ plates. You'll need to run through the full importing process, I'd suggest starting on that sooner rather than later, as the paper work, etc, can take some time to complete.

Sounds like quite a beast of a car - you should bring it up to Sydney for the VW Nationals in May!
                  Nothing to see here...

Cheers - paperwork is all completed and vehicle import approval obtained (which was a pain in the ass - photocopying every page of your passport(s) and preparing a statement of travel accounting for every day I'd spent out of NZ since I've owned the car, among other things). The VIA process alone took about 2-3 months! The car is ready to go and is being loaded onto the boat in 3 days time.

VW Nationals could be a plan!

All good - do you have to have the car inspected now before they'll issue plates?

Yeah it's gonna have to go over the pits at D ickson when I get it here. Fingers crossed it sails through.
