  • Hi, golf 2 4x4T owner

I joined this forum when i was still in the
uk over 6 months ago now. I worked on my latest golf 2 for about 4yrs now doing 2 total rebuilds ( i didnt like it the first time) it started out as a UK spec syncro then converted to a 3 door with a turbo technichs conversion in the early ninetys and was featured in magazines at the time. I have now added rallye running gear , dta ecu, fully rebuilt 2ltr kr engine with to many mods, fully painted and smoothed engine and bay with wiring hidden through chasiss legs all seam welded even the wish bones and sub frame, audi door handles mk3 side indicators, infact too much more to list. the car is currently at g-werks in the UK being finished off, does anyone out there know or has anyone shipped cars from the UK and can recomend any good companies ..

There's been a few cars brought over from the UK. The problem you will have is the non-standard injection/management system. That's going to be a big headache to get past an inspection. Easier in SA over any other state I reckon.

It would be much easier to get it in with a G60 fitted.

    Where are you moving to?

        Hi Andy,

There is a guy in the Volkswagen Club of Victoria (Bill Malkoutzis; haven't got his details to hand), who is a VicRoads certified engineer, who can approve (or not, of course) modifications to vehicles for registration. He'll have as good an idea as any-one of the complications involved. When you get here, you can send me your details, and I'll pass them on, or you could always join the club ( www.vwclub.com.au ).

There's folk a lot more up on this than me. If you have a look for posts by VR6Storm he brought over a VR6 Storm and a MK1 GTI with a turbo and Emerald management on it. He got through by the skin of his teeth. He did have to jump through hoops including having some engineering reports done. Emissions is the biggest one, there's no concept that an aftermarket management system could be any better than K jetronic? total lack of understanding of modern technology by the rule writers.

You need to investigate carefully before putting the car on a boat.

I've registered a few now with no problems. Perhaps it's different up here but when the chap did mine he just wanted the correct seatbelts with australian standards, child seat anchors in the rear and E numbers on all the lights etc. He never even took a look at the engine and no emission tests whatsoever..
