Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • WA Bora fun

    Hi all,

Just got my new v6 4-motion bora today and i couldn't be happier. It took about 2 weeks for the dealer to fix some stuff on it despite the need for more fixing as the trip computer screen has decided to start to fade (first day aswell) and the traction control/esp light is permanently on but still good car so far .

    Welcome to the 4mo FAMILY!

Any plans for it, or just keeping it stock for a while?

Where abouts are you, it might pay to get it scanned for faults.. the traction light will be on for a number of reasons...

    {edit: just had a closer look at the pics.. WA }

And is it lowered? looks lower than standard!
    Cheers

Nice car man!! Get the dealer to replace the dash, you should have the 3 month/5000km statuary warranty
I have the vchecker pro so we can scan it for faults to see why is that light on. Let me know

        Thanks

Haha for the short time i've had it its such a blast to drive. And dam does it have a nice sound track.I love it as its such a sleeper car noone has ever heard of it.

Um i would love to do some mods to it's but unsure on what. Heard that a tune and the haldex 4wd are good upgrades to do. Also heard that you can bi turbos to get it to 500hp but thats gonna cost a fortune.

Um it has to go back to the dealer as he has to replace an aircon valve. When we first looked at it 3 weeks ago he told us the aircon pipes, rear view mirror and mirror knob where broken. Mirror took 2 weeks to fix and was only fixed last night but the aircon parts havn't come in yet. When i take it back im going to get them to look at the traction control and lcd and the stero cd button and 6 stacker haha bit faulty atm.

Apparently it has 'sports' suspension the dealer told me. it's got the charateristics of it very taught and springy but good in the corners which is good cause that was one of the first things i had planned as thats what most suggested.

Cheers for that if the dealer can't fix it i might take you up on that

Also is there a way to get ipod connectivity to these versions like that of the new ones?

I bet one of these kits could be sorted to fit the 4 mo if your pockets are deep enough. How much power was Sir looking for?

Boras have the same drivetrain as the R32. If you decide to upgrade the Haldex controller you wont be able to launch the thing off the mark. I have thrashed some seriously fast cars off the mark just coz i can get a really really good launch. Thats why im still thinking about upgrading it

To clarify, the Bora V6 4Motion shares a gearbox (02M AWD) and AWD system (Haldex-based) with the Mk4 R32.

I'm curious regarding the claim that you can't launch off the mark with the upgraded Haldex controller - yes, you get more torque transfer to the rear (and sooner) with the upgraded controller, and that can cause the car to bog down a bit, but no more than any other AWD car, and the solution to that is to ensure that your revs are high enough to counter the bogging down (and you may have to moderate the takeoff with the clutch a little more than standard - not nice on the clutch, but a clutch is cheaper than a gearbox or diff).
              Nothing to see here...

Big rage goes out to myself for rolling my car on a gravel road. Been driving the gravel for 1hr before and just about to come off onto the street and go home and managed to loose the backend well enough into a ditch to roll the car on its roof. Woo life. Guess its my fault or just an accident i felt i was doing the right speed but hit the loose gravel doing slightly the wrong line and yeah **** happens(if i was speeding i would have gone right across and over the other side). That and i've lost my iphone doing so. Had it, took some pictures and now its gone woo one of those days.

Biggest scare was that i asked my mate if he wanted to come with and he would have been very badly hurt if he did. Allthough i would have taken it alot slower that way.

                  Anyway pics

                  Sigh.
So is the haldex upgrade worth it? pros and cons?

I think so - I have the blue haldex controller - it makes the AWD system (which is a part-time system) much more predictable in that torque is applied sooner at the rear wheels, and more even as more torque is applied at the rear (the stock setup doesn't achieve anything like a 50:50 front:rear split). You get less understeer with the upgraded Haldex, and to be honest, I'm not sure that there's really any negatives other than the cost of the upgrade unit - I haven't heard any stories of people with increased wear of the rear end of the drivetrain.
