Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hello from Melbourne

    Hey everyone

Just thought i'd say hi to you all in my first post considering in the upcoming months I will be seeking help from many of you when modifying my GTI.

I've just recently purchased my second Golf GTI as a mini weekend project/ toy to play with. Its 99 model that is pretty much stock with the exception of a nice pair of Audi shoes. For some reason I like the original body characteristics and wanted to see what sort potential the GTI's have.

Having previously owned a number of Nissans (skylines x2, 200sx x2, 180sx etc), i've decided to jump into something a little more low key and less of a negative attention magnet. At this stage I have no idea what I am up against working on the GTI, however from reading some of the posts and helpful tips I would like to start with some basic bolt on mods such as FMIC, exhaust, EBC etc.

I look foward to interacting with you all and hopefully in due time I will be able to assist newbies myself.

      Hi from Melbourne too.

Just purchased a red 5 door golf GTI last weekend. I was advised that it should arrive in 3 months

        Hey guys

Good to hear there are more Melbourne newbies joining me... :p

I finally picked up my 99 GTI and as much as I love it, I have come across a potential serious issue with the rattling of the transmission in first gear...

I have been advised that this is caused by the transmission bearings, and these are not all that cheap to replace...

If anyone can direct me to a specialist in Melbourne that will be awesome...
