Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hello from NZ

Well not a great day to add my first post from NZ having found out the Red's bet my beloved Crusaders.

I'm from Christchurch New Zealand and I own a 1990 Corrado 16V that I purchased back in 2008 while I lived in the UK on my O.E

Having returned from the UK I pulled my car from storage and since then I have done quite a bit like restoring the panel work to good condition, added finishing touches like leather door cards, later model steering wheel, upgraded lighting loom, installed aftermarket laser cut door mechanisms to the door handles (common problem), new cambelt etc.

Still got to install Bilstein 40mm kit and my G60 brakes.

    Old pic before resto/paint

    After paint

Leather Door cards with 6inch pods

I'm pretty happy with the progress so far however I'm considering selling her as I really miss a having a surf/mtb wagon/hack.

    My email is offshore3ft@yahoo.co.nz

Hi mate and welcome to VWWC.

Nice looking Corrado, i see its an early one with a late grille. Is it straight black or metallic? The paint looks in good condition.

I imported a Corrado G60 in 2005 (the one on the forum banner) and just sold it a couple of weeks ago. There are less than 10 here as VW never sold them in Australia, i believe they sold a dozen or so in NZ.

Are there many parts on the shelf for Corrados there or is a waiting game like in Aus?

Hello, its had panel resto and paint (windows out). I was fortunate to live in the UK for two years so I have stockpiled and I have a few connections so getting parts is no problem. Parts are scarce in NZ. I have addressed most of the teething issues that these cars experience.

      It's straight black (factory spec).

How much did you sell your G60 for?

      Ray

Good stuff, mine came from the UK too, and i resprayed it just over a year ago with the windows out too. Those rear quarter windows are tricky!

Did you ever have a headlight switch break too then? Another common fault, if you're unlucky it can cause a short and fry the loom from the switch to the fuse box!!
