  • QLD Vr6 - abs

Hi, can anyone help me regarding the ABS on my 1996 VR6 Golf. Have owned the car for about 15 months and have done around 20,000kms (total 115,000kms on clock). The ABS light initially used to come on intermittently, now it is on almost continuously.
Is there a quick fix (and cheap) for this? Any ideas.

    Thanks and regards,
    Kevin

Best bet for sure is to have the car scanned for faults with VAG-COM. www.ross-tech.com

Anything wrong should be logged, especially if the warning light is staying on. Most likely in my experience is a wheel sensor. Not hard or expensive to replace.

It is possible to troubleshoot without VAG-COM but certainly a lot more time consuming.

      Thanks Gavin,
I'll give that a go. I have had it looked at with a scanner a few times - I recall that the fault was 'taken off' and this would result in the light staying off for a short while before coming back on. This was when other work was being done (big bucks stuff - conversion from auto to manual, timing chain, window regulator, ignition switch etc) so I didn't take much notice at the time.
It goes like a rocket - especially after Matt (Camden GTI) did such a good job with the conversion (after the auto **** itself) - but the costs will have to stop soon or it will be RIP.

      Regards,

      Kevin
