Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • New GTI owner, new member here and a new problem :(

    Hey guys and girls,

New member here on these forums as I am a first time VW owner. My wife and I picked up our new MkVI GTI last Saturday.

It is white with DSG, sat nav, sunroof, factory MDI and Park Assist. Safe to say we both love it!

Now for the problem if I may put my hand up for some help in case it has been seen before -

The RNS510 is the apparently new version with the voice control.

The problem we are having is with our iPod Nano and the track name display on the head unit.

If we let songs play through in their entirety the track name updates and shows the name of the next track when it starts playing on the screen as it is supposed to.

The issue occurs when we skip to the next track using either the head unit or steering wheel controls. If we skip a track after it has started playing, the name of the track we have skipped to updates correctly and it begins playing however when that track finishes and the next one starts playing the track name does not update and remains as the previously played track name, regardless of how many other tracks play. ie the name of the song that we skipped to remains on the display, even when that song has finished playing and others have started until the iPod is unplugged and replugged.

Has anyone come across this issue and if so does anyone know of a resolution as it is quite frustrating!

We have tried an iPhone 3GS and the same problem occurs.

The dealer we bought from has only seen one other of these "update" head units and as such has no experience with the issue. They do agree that it is an issue, they just aren't sure where or what the problem is.

Thank you for your time. Any advice much appreciated as it is the only blemish we have with this new car.

being a new car and having any problems with it i would be going back to the dealer?

being a new thing you will find the common issues are only coming up now (eg yours)..
      What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

^^ Been back to the dealer daily, my wife actually works there!

They are scratching their heads over it. I am trying to be proactive and find a resolution before it drives us all nuts....

The dealership tried a new Passat with the same head unit and factory MDI and discovered the same issue so no doubt it is about to become a bigger issue than just our car.....

Just put the music on an SD card and see if that works.
It could just be apple and their crappy products so this will alow you to narrow if down to the apple/RNS faults.

            Could be a firmware fix.

Its beautiful when you get 2 brands working (or in this case) not working together. They can point the finger at eachother until the cows come home.

Have you tried any of the UK forums? Have you asked about an available firmware update for your Canbus/head-unit/IC system?

^^ They are meant to be going down the FW update road with it today to see if there and updates/patches to load into the MDI or RNS...

Been searching the net high and low and haven't been able to really find anything similar. Couple of things here and there similar but not much discussion about it and no fixes.
