Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • potential golf gti owner...from Perth WA

    Hello everyone,

I am a potential golf gti owner... still deciding on to get the Mk5 or wait for the new Mk6 GTi. I am still on the wall about the new old styling.. maybe if I see more around it might grow on me.

    Cheers

    Shino

welcome aboard shino, hope you enjoy your stay.

Go for a Mk5 and with the money you save, you can APR tweak it

dont take my view though i'm not experienced with either.

from reading, I gather the Mk6 will be an excellent car, but I would expect pricing of Mk5s to be very enticing around now.

i suggested the APR route because I'm always keen on tweaking, which might not be your driver

I have test driven a Mk5 and it was pretty good. So until I drive the Mk6, I can't really decide yet.

The mk6 has better fuel economy, more powerful engine, etc but the styling is of some acquired taste.

But if I get the mk6 and APR it... will be looking at a very quick hot hatch and the new XDL diff present in the new one will make a whole lot of use of the power better.

ummmmm... I will have to ponder a bit longer lol.
