Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    hey guys!

new here but not new to cars

names nathan, im a 20 yo studying mechanical engineering at swinburne.

im a big fan of classic dubs, like mk1's and the old aircooled moddels. i've already been lurking abit and i love the rat/retro mk1 thread

i have plans of building a racespec mk1 contemplating a mid engine rwd conversion! but im still deciding on the engine i should use....hopefully in a month or 2 i can buy a chassis and start...though knowing my student wages it'll be a long term project i hope i can learn more about it around here

my current ride though is a 98' ek civic, its a bit of a rat, but i like it that way

    Hi Nathan!

    Welcome!

I'm studying mech eng at swinny too.

If you've seen low 4 door with nice wheels in white around swinburne, it was probably me!

a mk1 would make a great base for a bit of a race/track car. but if you want to go RWD, I hope you're a really good fab/welder! hahah.

    enjoy!

    i like volkswagens

i think i've seen it loud zorst??

it's still all pretty much up in the air atm, i need to get a chassis and prep it first. rwd conversion is a dream, i might just end up with a basic ff setup.
