Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    G,day all,
Well we operate a T4 Transporter auto 2.5 Lt with approx 130k on the clock it has proved very reliable save some minor issues as follows:-
    1. VW factory A/C from new had a wiring anomally which caused the 2 off radiator fans to run continuosly at low speed whenever the vehicle was running, provided the cabin fan was not in the off position - ODD allright!
This in turn caused the premature death of both radiator fan bearings.
VW were contacted out of warranty and reworked the faulty wiring and replaced the 2 off failed radiator fans with new units - all now O.K.
    2. Minor leak on auto transmission and after many failed attempts to find the source, it was established that the auto tran plastic filler tube "O" ring had cracked. VW could not supply a new filler tube and "O" ring, so fortunately we traced the factory approved autotran rebuilder in Dandenong South who asked how many we wanted. He posted a new tube and "o' ring seal - fixed.
On December 09 we acquired a new Passat Wagon TDI and to date we are very happy indeed, save a very small appearance issue (as we see it) with the twin exhaust tail pipes - "NO CHROME TIPS"! and whats more there is NO spare part item for this vehicle available from VW. So we looked aftermarket,
Remus appear to have an item, at least in the catalogue?, a site in the US claim to have a set to suit? All a bit pie in the sky to risk your dollars site unseen let alone actual proof of fit. Next we then checked Skoda, possible types may be there but could not determine readily. Finally checked Audi, bingo spoke to a very obliging spare parts guy at P****** Audi, who said that perhaps Audi A4 twin pipe chrome tips may fit, Went to see him and tried for size, virtually spot on save a very minor non alignment, you cant pick this point. They just knock on with a rubber mallot as there are slide retaining clips on the inside of the tips which compress & squeeze on with end result of a "smick" look. Audi part No.8K0 071 761 @ approx. $155.00
Trust our comments may be of some interest to others.
    Cheers CAC.
