Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hi - I have been a VW fan since I got my new beetle in 2004. I then got a Golf TDI and 16 months ago I got my Tiguan 2 litre Tdi. I have done 50,000 in that time and have thoroughly enjoyed the Tiguan experience. One of the most satisfying things I have with the Tiguan is the economy. My overall average for the 50,000 is 6 l/100 . I am looking forward to the challenge of dropping that even more with sensible driving.

Welcome aboard mate! There are quite a few of you Tig owners in the ACT now. Your consumption figures are awesome compared with mine, but I am a self confessed lead-foot, so that's hardly a surprise

Let us know what options you went with. Also, given your milage, what sort of issues or concerns you've had. Mind if I ask how much your 30000km service was?

I can not recall what the 30,000 service was - but they have not been excessive. I have been very happy with the team at Lennocks where I get it serviced. I guess that I get good economy from doing long trips the majority of the time - from Wagga to Canberra.
I have a white 2lt TDI manual - no sunroof.
I got the automatic parking but have not really put it to the test yet.
I have the rear parking camera and also went for the bluetooth.
The Tig is so easy to use - it is really an accessory for my life.
I have had it for just on 16 months and it has not missed a beat.
I did have to put a new set of tyres on this week - the front ones were well worn. I put on Cooper CS4s. I did notice a drop in the economy for the trip to Wagga - it went from an average of 5.4 l/100 to about 6.3. Not happy. I may move them to the rear, wear out the old back tyres and put on some different ones - with a little more research. I was amazed at the difference in economy just from the tyres.
Any advice on tyres would be welcome.

Welcome aboard to you too. Jeez, what a great way to christen your Tig... on the Great Ocean Road! I christened mine with a bid of a dirt drive
Hope to see you in the Offroad-Tiguan section.

welcome TiguanJo and great to here you are enjoying the Tig experience. Re tyres yes I wouldn't be happy either, but I'd be surprised if tyres per se made that big a difference, I'd be looking for other explanations such as tyre pressure or something else. Maybe your old tyres were running at significantly higher pressure.

On fuel economy tips etc, plenty in the fuel economy thread in the Tig section or on the web.

We have a chipped 125 TSI and while we cant match your TDI for economy, driven well the TSI's are still pretty good - regularly in the mid to high 6's per 100klm on road trips (according to the MFD which is close but we have found is optimistic by about 0.2 l per 100). I think it would be possible to dip into the high 5's even with the TSI, but that would mean hwy driving at 90-95 without air con (and not in an auto).

Hope you continue to enjoy your Tig for many years to come.

tyres do seem to make difference

I mentioned that I had new CS4s on the front and lost some economy. Yesterday I had the tyres put on the back and had the original tyres fitted from the back to the front. The economy returned - which I will test over the next few trips. I have checked all the obvious such as tyre pressure. When I have to replace the current front tyres I will certainly be looking around for a tyre that offers the and grip but not the drag - if that is at all possible.
