Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • What is this?

Hi all, long time listener first time caller. Recently purchased a 2006 2.0tdi which i am in love with.

I've never driven a deisel before but the car flies! I'm not sure though, i think it may have been modified. Can anyone tell me what the little gold box is next to the battery case (far right of the engine bay)? is it some sort of aftermarket tuning device? It has a red wire coming out of it

I bought it from a dealer who didn;t mention anything about it - probably cause i didn't ask.

ps how do i get a photo up?

can't help on the gold box thing but to get photos up you'll need a photobucket account or I use servimg once you upload a pic you'll be given a direct image link, copy that.
Then when post, click on the yellow icon with the mountain on it and past the link in pop up menu.

First two things that came to mind were amp/sub fuse box, or aftermarket alarm.

definetly standard audio system, and alarm seems standard. all works of the volkswagen key anyway?

I'd guess some sort of security thing looking at the logo, but yeah just guessing someone should know.

where do the cables run?? It appears as though it's designed to get hot due to the fins/heat sink it's attached too.

It can't be drawing much power as the cables are simply too small. My only thought is an aftermarket rust protection thingy.
