Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Possible Polo GTI owner!

    Hi fellas,

I've become interested in the 2006/7 VW Polo GTI. I currently own an 06 Honda Integra - Type S, but I think it's time for a change (and to save some money!). I've never owned a turbo'd car, have driven a few, but this would be my first to own.

The reviews on this car has been fantastic, from pocket rocket, to fuel consumption, to handling. It's a very well thought out car and is an all-rounder in my opinion. I've always known that a Polo GTI with ECU / Exhaust was a combination for great power, until I read it and saw it on the APR website. Absolutely amazes me what this car can do. To be honest, I'm not going to be 'mod-crazy', probably just an APR ecu for fuel purposes (really?..)

I'll be looking for one in white or black, but if you want to shoutout as to why a certain colour is better, let me know! I hear white is the best based on the forums - haha.

Anyways, I hope to learn heaps, and when the time comes once my car is sold (which hopefully will be end of Feb), I'll be browsing to learn more. Also, is there anything I should know/be aware of?

    Thanks for everything.

P.S Can someone please point me to a video review? I've seen countless website reviews, but a video would be nice.

    Hi mate,

Its a good little car, I'd suggest you drive one before counting your chickens, especially if you are coming from an Integra which is known for its handling. Polo has good power from the Chip, but to get it handling well may require a few mods too.

Not a lot of extra horses from exhaust upgrade, money is better spent on mods to the intake section.

I'm available if you wanted to come see a moderately modded one up close.

Plenty of info in the Polo section of this site, enjoy...

Yes, I'll definitely drive one. I'll head into a dealership and see how I go. Looking for probably an 06-08 model, depending on the price.

To be honest, I don't want to really mod, though I'm very tempted with the ECU just for bang for buck. The gf will hit the roof, lol

The Type S handled very well around corners. I'm looking at selling her because I'm trying to save for a house and from all the cars I've looked at, well, The Polo GTI seemed the best fit and every review I've read has been fantastic. It's quick, nice looking, decent fuel consumption and if I ever need that extra bit of fun, the ECU

May I ask, are you in Sydney and what year is yours? (You can PM if you like).
