        Mate,

for 7 or so you should pick up a reasonable one. I picked mine up for that, although that was a really good buy too, Dont be afraid of having to fly interstate to get it, you pick up some real bargains like that.

As for flash tunable, no they are not, you have to have the computer taken out and have the old chip removed, and the new one welded on with soldier. I'm not sure how much difference that makes, but I suppose it might help a little. People fall into the trap of removing the air box and making it free flowing by putting a pod filter on. This actually will **** the tune of the car up and screw it completely. I dont care what anyone says, it reduces air flow because it looses the ram effect. Anyway now that my rant is over on that.

As for shockies, I have Koni yellow adjustables on my car, they are about the best value for money you can get. Sure you can get all these coilovers and trick bits and pieces, but From memory i think a set of coil overs go for about 1.5k? Koni yellows are going for about $600 for the set of four i think. And honestly, how often do you go adjusting the height of a car yourself? And for that matter how often do you adjust the ride of your car? As far as I can tell the main difference between coilovers and adjustable shockies, is ride height....? I may be wrong on that, but As i said above, how often do you go changing them?

If you were to get a set of Koni's and your in brisbane area, there is a bloke up at Leda suspension, Bruce, he can go through and freshen the things up, set them up for what you want and put them in. Give him a call and have a bit of a chat to him about it.

The VR's are a good car, heaps of poke, you gotta spare a thought for window winder regulators and chains and heater cores (someone correct me where im wrong here) as the window regulators are crap, and about $220 for a new one, the timing chain is a fairly hexxy thing to do aswell...and as for the heater core, From what I can see, its a pain in the A**E!.

Hope this has been of help =P

Yep agree to all of the above.. Also just a word of advice, don't be afraid of high KM variants! Provided they've lived a life of regular, logbooked servicing then there's no reason for them not to live until 300,000kms or so - and that's when the odometer resets

One thing though, Coxy09 mentioned the Koni shocks, but nothing about springs. VR6's in standard form have this safety feature called "4WD Height" which enables them to go offroading and such.. If you're looking at suspension upgrades, definitely replace both the shock absorbers AND springs to make the most of the opportunity!

Most of all, good luck and keep us posted

Hey thats interesting about the 4wd height springs....I never knew about that. I know my car is certainly lowered, but Its not too low, I suppose its one of those things as far as personal preference.

The other thing you need to keep in mind about lowering, is that it can actually have a bad effect on the handling of a car, where a car is designed to be balanced at a certain height with certain roll, when lowering the car down too far, it looses body roll (which people percieve as a good thing) but it can actually un-settle the car mid corner, which is never a good thing. There is alot in it, but it was just interesting when I was learning about that sort of stuff and trying to go really fast around a 'track' too low of a car looses you time...

Just have a look through the Mk3 section for common faults, heater core, ABS, windows, chains, front engine mount takes a hammering, locks spinning....etc. some not expensive (lock fix is about $20 and 15 min of stuffing around) some alot worse.

Welcome, and hope we see you in a VR soon, well...you don't see VRs, you hear them.
I never knew about the OBD2 ones, I have a 96 motor in my car, but No idea what sort of computer setup it has. I'd still like to see the difference between set ups, but there you have it. Joe is right, they have a magnificient noise to them.....just awesome
