Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Golf MK6 prices

Hi i am new to the forum. There was a post about the golf prices, but all of it is the 118tsi.
In Victoria, how much should i be paying for a Golf GTI MK6, with ipod cable but no extra options.
i need a figure so i can negotiate with dealer... don't know where to start.
    their rrp price is 47k.

    btw it's 5 door, manual.

im tossing between the 118tsi and the GTI.
i thinkthey are about 10k money difference.
but is it really worth investing extra 10k? what is different about the two cars?
i know the engine is different, one is 1.4litre and gti is 2.0 turbo.

so what am i paying for the extra 10k.

seats, wheels, steering wheel, suspension, powah!, speed, styling, cred, 3dr option, etc.

It's a little bit jiggly in ride, but handles sharply in comparison to the lower spec models.

the GTI obviously interests me more.
but the dealer offered 47k, base model.
i am not sure what i should be offering him.

Easily worth the extra 10k IMO, go the GTI it would be a lot more fun (otherwise just get a civic and save yourself some money).

          Added:

Just try and get a great deal on the GTI and it would be worth it for the extra features/performance/appeal and easier to sell later. Also you don't want to end spending money on mods only realise you could have got a GTI with the money you spent.

Although if you're not into performance cars & modding the 118TSI is still a great choice if you want a good quality reliable car, and would be better than civics, corollas etc.

I agree - definitely consider the GTI, there are many reasons why VW Australia has such a high percentage of GTI takeup per Golf models sold, it is such an attractive mix of price, quality and performance.
