Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

A front mount would be a nice improvement. I had a couple of G60s, a MK2 GTI and a Passat Syncro.

Heatsoak is a killer on them in a UK summer, it must be a lot worse here.

Yeah, VW motorsport gearknob, a very rare 16V steering wheel..........
    What else??
In those days it wasn't as easy as getting onto ebay and sourcing the parts you needed. I haven't looked yet but I'm sure I could source a good size frontmount that would go on quite discreetly.

Nice one mate welcome to the forum...

I've seen your car at Carls too, looked like it needed some love but good to see a G60in a Mk1 in Australia!!
Mercedes Sprinter FMIC seems to be quite popular recently, think it has the same size inlet as the charger outlet.
I've got a Rallye FMIC sitting here too!

I saw that Black MK1 GTI at TSR. My mate had a drive of it. I reckon I have a magazine article of it somewhere if I looked hard enough.

Tim tried selling the car but struggled due to the cost of insurance quotes folk were getting at the time.

          Thanks.
Mmmm, nice Corrado. Now a Rallye I wouldnt mind, although I've noticed they are getting very pricey in the UK if you can find one.

Yeah it was in a VW Motoring article circa 1990ish.
When I spoke to Tim a few years ago he couldn't believe that it was over here and that it was still going!

I reckon it would be '93, we went to a dyno day from Cornwall IIRC and I was in the RAF down there from late '92.

I might have to have a look now, you have got me interested. I think I read about it in Cars and car conversions first Tim used to write and column or something in that.

Do you mean the Intercoolers? They do fetch a bit, you can still buy them new from VW i think, around 600GBP, second hand go from 300-400GBP, then the Golf G60 a little cheaper.
The U-Bend is expensive too though, and rare (obsolete).

                  Yeah, showing my age now.

Just to complicate matters before I left he UK I attempted to buy the original black mark 1 with the g60 motor in it (without the motor). TSR fitted a 2 litre 8v motor and went and looked at buying it off the owner. He wanted too much for it, although it was immaculate and I ended up buying and subsequently shipping out here a mark 1 Campaign in helios blue.

                  Funny how things turn out.

No sorry, the cars. (Your photo reminded me of a mates Storm back home)

I'd probably go with the Merc van option or an ebay special. Anything would be better than the diesel one on there at thr moment.

Gwerks used to sell U bends. There's a picture on the website but nowt else.

You could do it with the RSR oulet and some silicon pipes.

Yeah Darren had a few made up and was selling them for 100GBP from memory, but decided he wasn't going to anymore, not sure why? He was also going to sell the complete pipework kits but had trouble with them leaking so nothing came of it in he end.

Welcome I recognise the silver G60 beast from your photos. Do you know where your import campaign is now?

Yep, that was the Campaign that I brought in on a personal import in 1997.
