Enjoying new car immensely, other than the roadwheel locking that occurs on maybe 1 in 15 downshifts in sports mode (especially second to first). Done 1000k's and it's still doing it, dealer says it will settle down a bit over time. It makes such a noise as the tyres screech and the car jolts like hitting a pothole. Do others get this with sports mode?

I dont get it. It actually locks one of the front wheels under braking and downshifting??? Welcome to the forum BTW

      Thanks for the welcome.

Maybe roadwheel lock is the wrong term. But basically you'd swear you just hit something when it does its occasional crazy downshift thing. Your body gets jolted forward and the tyres screech so much that pedestrians all turn and look at me. It only happens occasionally, but at least once on any 30 min drive. Don't have to be braking. It occurs regularly when I let the car slow down going up my street which is on an incline, I'm slowing down to turn in my driveway, then suddenly "JOLT".

I emailed the dealer, phoned the dealer and yesterday went to the dealer (as my personalised plates had arrived) and each time they assure me its quite normal behaviour when the car is new. They say until it settles down it's quite normal to get the odd jolt like that, like shifting a normal manual from 4th to first by mistake. I'm just frightened the engine's going to break in half.

If the symptoms are as described, your dealer is not correct, this is not normal DSG behavour. I'm on my second DSG car and never had such an issue.

The downshift to first should only take place when you are virtually stopped, to behave as you describe the car would have to be travelling quite quickly. In S mode, downchanges can be more noticeable but mainly due to the ECU blipping the throttle as downshift occurs, but NEVER should it be so harsh the tyres screech.

          Cheers

Hi G- Wagon, don't know what compression lock is, don't know enough about engines, I should say I know nothing abouth engines except where they are.

George, think I'm just going to have to get the dealer's technicians to test drive the car so they can see what I'm talking about. I'm not sure they quite comprehend what I'm saying. Put it this way, every passenger I've had in the car says "S*** what the f*** was that!"

Actually, I think I better post this topic under the Golf 6 forum rather than the introduction forum.

Welcome, please post in the mkVI forum, but take your car back as you have not described something that is close to normal. The MKVI GTI I have driven with less than 1000km was 'faultless' so there is a problem I'd suggest. Good luck.
