  • Drive 3 VW's in the UK

    Hello All,

I'm located in the UK near Stockport, Cheshire.

I have a low mileage 1990 Mk2 Scirocco Scala Injection, low mileage 1995 VW Corrado VR6 Storm and have just let go a tired 1990 Mk2 Scirocco daily runner to be replaced by a Mk3 Scirocco 1.4TSI - DSG last November 2009.

How car technology has moved on! Boy have I had a surprise with the Mk3 Scirocco. Had a few initial problems, most sorted now with a bit of ingenuity.

Hey Chris, welcome to the forum.

I reckon you need 10 posts up to post photos. Won't take you long to do.

I reckon we have had conversations through the Corrado forum in the past. Most likely to do with G60s and wiring.

          Cheers

Looks like I'd need photobucket according to posting rules. But there might be more than one way to cut it for today........

(Corrado and Scirocco above halfway down the postings)

See if either of these will show photos????

I get around, I vaguely recollect something about a Passat Estate engine?? Thats going back!!!! 2003, I think. And someone called Gavin in Manchester.

Corrado Club of Great Britain - set up the role of Technical Manager in 1999 and ran the position until 2006. Also set up Club Scirocco in the UK - Chairman . Sometimes post on the Corrado Forum Net (UK) as well.

That's me, I had a G60 Passat Syncro and a 1.8T around then and lived in Newton le Willows.

Is it ever. It's only seconds away these days.

You need to sign up to the forum to see the pictures Chris. I guess we'll have to be patient and let you join photobucket or somewhere.

I'll see what I can do tomorrow with this old steam driven PC of mine. Pensioners can't afford much else you know

OK here we go, hopefully first time right with Photobucket.........

The new Scirocco Mk3 is a 1.4TSi DSG with a few options.......

Added options: 2 Zone Aircon, Cruise Control, Folding miroors, Front Fog Lights, Multi-Function Steering Wheel, and Leather trim.

These photos were taken with the Scirocco hot off the transporter in the dealers pound. Track the car through the VW factory (October 19th to 23rd) at Palmela, Portugal; onto the ship (October 24th) at the port in Setabul in Portugal. Then followed the ship sailing to Sheerness (October 27th) in Kent, England. I knew where it was before the dealers did! I rang to tell them it was at the back door and when could I see it!!

Viewed with the wrappers still on the car on October 28th.

.Bank screwed the funds so couldn't take delivery until November 4th. All nice and shiney in the launch control area of the showroom. After a very "concours" close inspection the car was declared fit 100% at 11:00 and I hand over the wedge.

And finally, the sixth Scirocco I've owned; my first "new", new car for 20 years was finally home after a long wait from ordering on the 12th July – 15 weeks. Anyone would have thought they had fed the new Scirocco on steroids!!! What a change in size. I whinced on the way home every time I went past a bus going the other way, checking the right hand wing mirror was still with me as the car is wiiiiiidddde and..... the car inside was like sitting in a lounge, the only thing missing was the TV and sofa! Technology change was another quantum light-year step forward, the darn car control itself. I just sit in the driver's seat and twiddle the steering wheel. The rest does what the "brains" want it to do.

The old Mk2 Scirocco was given away with 163,000 miles on the clock. 15 years good service but time to move on..............

The engine is 160PS and is about the same as a Corrado G60 for performance so was quicker than the Mk2 white Scirocco it was replacing.

After a cosmetic job to the front grille, mud flaps, boot liner and sill guards, the car finally hit the road as my new daily driver.

It's stable mates the Scirocco Scala Injection (1990) and Corrado VR6 Storm (1995) are only used in the summer and are regular attendees at shows and meets in the UK.

Both are Concours d'Elegance champions, the Silver Scirocco winning the Concours Superclass at Stanford Hall VW Show in May 2009. The most difficult VW concours competition in the UK and it took 10 years of learning the tricks to get to No.1 and lift the Superclass Cup.
