Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hi from a very new VW convert. I had been looking for some time for a replacement for my Liberty 3.0r. Liked the Passat CC, waited for the new Liberty, nice drive but the styling didn't grab me. Also looked and drove a Falcom G6E turbo, nice car, loads of power but felt big. Couldn't decide......... until I drove an R36. Well that was it, I found it to be just a fun drive so am now the proud owner of a black R36. So far only 3000k but am impressed with fuel consumption and it is still fun to drive.
I live in SE Qld and there doesn't seem to be too many around these parts so I am interested in learning and sharing experiences with other owners of these cars.
I have heard people talk about VW quality and reliability problems still persisting, are there issues with the R36?

Welcome aboard Greg, glad to hear you are enjoying your R36.

I don't think any new car with complex systems is going to be as reliable as some of the older, simpler cars were. The Passat sub-forum seems to have a few threads dealing with some of the more common issues.
