Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Buy a Used MKV GTI, or... consider a new GTI?

I've done a lot of reading and the MK5 or MK6 GTI has grabbed my attention. Haven't driven one yet, however it's a car that will likely suit me.

I don't have any preference for MK5 or 6. But I'm trying to work out whether to buy an 07/08 model or buy new. Seem there are a lot on the market. Actually prefer the manual transmission, but the pricing seems rather high. Redbook values at 08 model from $28,300 to $31,200... for 15,000 to 25000km. But even 07 to 08 model are listed around the $33,500 to $36,000 price range with 30,000 to 60,000km on the clock.

My dilemma is I'm a few thousand short of the list price. If I get a loan, I might as well consider getting a new one.

Not sure on the RRP's, but I've been reading its around $45k with DSG for the current model? Looking at a manual with leather interior. Anyone know the RRP... or what to expect for a good price from a dealer? Do they still have the MKV's available, or have they run them out?

Also... could someone enlighten me on how to qualify for the "corporate discount"? Does it just need to be a business purchase?

    Advise would be appreciated
Working...
