Hmm. Can't post in the main forums yet. I'll ask a question here then.
My golf is making a whining noise upon take off. The best way for me to describe the sound is to liken it to the power steering in some cars, where it just whines a little when at full lock at low speed - in the carpark, for example.
It appears to be coming from the clutch as the noise only occurs when the pedal is in use and at a particular point in the travel. The problem is intermittant and seems to be random.
Initially I asked the dealer who I bought the car from to fix it and so they sent the car to VW in Newstead but it was returned. They claimed that there was no sound when they took it for a long test drive. This was last week. Since then the sound appears to be happening more frequently and may be a little louder than before.
I realise that this is not much information but what do you think it is that could be causing this sound? I really want it fixed but I can imagine that the dealership would be reluctant to replace the clutch if at all possible!
I should also add that I have just sent away to have the VW extended warranty (that the previous owner purchased) transferred to my name.
