Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • WA Potential VAG purchaser

    Hi everyone

I'm looking at the various purchasing options:

    1. Skoda Octavia VRS
    2. VW Jetta
    3. Golf V if I can convince the missus that its pretty much the same size just don't look at the boot!

I currently drive a Mazda 6MPS with mods.

    Cheers

All of the above will be slower, but nicer to sit in, than your Mazda I'd reckon. The engine in the MPS cars is a stonking good thing.

must it be new? you could also consider a recent R32 or perhaps an Audi S3 or A4TQ
2007 Audi RS4 with: APR ECU Upgrade; JHM Quick Shifter; Milltek Catback and Downpipes; KW V3 Coilovers; Argon Creative Carbon Fibre Splitters

Go for the Octavia! The boots space, whether it's a wagon of liftback, is huge. Very nice car to drive, goes pretty quick, loads of standard features.

I would look at all of them, but am biased towards the Jetta.
When I bought my MY07 model,I considered the Mazda 6 luxury, but much prefered the Jetta, and am happy that I went for it.
If boot space is a priority, forget about the Golf.

Yeah I do own a yellow s40 t4. Great car for an ovlov and quite quick as well.

The MPS is a seriously quick car for its size. The 80-120km/h in 3rd dishes out chop on even exotics. Mine has a few mods and I love the car. My wife isn't as much a fan and we are looking at a car that both would be happy to drive because from time to time we do a car swap.

Chasing a sensible purchaser with a sensible purchase price so that I can move on a deal.

I'm convinced tho that my next car will come from VAG stables.

Norse Motors dealership on Canning Highway recently closed their doors, they are very close to where I live, and I often saw S40s in the yard there, there was a white 2006 model that was trying to attract my attention every time me and the missus walked past. The S40 is a seriously handsome car, and they get a good write up at Drive.com.au too. If I was in need of a car that size, the S40 would have been a contender.

I'd noticed that yeah. They lost the Volvo dealership ages ago but Saab must have pulled out or their leased expired and the whole place has closed down now...

The Volvos I saw in their yard were all pre-owned, so I'm guessing they may have been trade-ins.

I have to say Norse Motors' yard is a prick of a place to try to get in or out of. If you turn at Canning Highway you have to execute a U-turn at Edgecumbe then head back towards Canning Highway and swing left into their yard. When you come out of their yard you can only turn left heading towards the traffic lights. And there's always two lanes of traffic stopped at the lights so you can't get out anyway! Bad, bad location.

When I spoke to him a few days ago, he was looking elsewhere in the VAG Family (think Quattro) We'll see....
