Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Offsets vary - they're not static because different wheel widths will require different offsets to fit under wheel arches - lower your car, this becomes more important - if you want poke, you'll want a different offset, etc.

      Mk3, Mk4 and Mk5 also have different PCDs (Not sure on most Mk3s, I know the VR6 and Mk4s have 5x100, Mk5s are 5x112).
      Nothing to see here...

so i had the GL MK3 for about 6 months im now gettin a MK4 Gti. Its the Golf i actually always wanted, i just got the MK3 because thats all i could afford at the time and there were no nice VR6's kicking about after being overseas for a while and draining my funds.

I must say the MK3 GL is a reliable car (hope the Gti is as reliable) - i did aprox 20,000 KM in it over the last few months back and forward between VIC and QLD and it did suprisingly well.

Looks like my MK3 GL has sold to a nice golf enthusiast also from this forum, im unsure of her username. i actually met her whole family who are all into Golfs - they recently went to the gathering in NSW to showcase their sons car - whom had sadly passed away. IM glad to have met these guys they really love this forum and said its a great place for networking, information etc.. well now ill probably be hanging out here a bit more oftern to learn about VW's and chill.

and now im on the hunt again for some standard MK4 GTI Golf rims... im only into standard stuff - lots of molested Golfs out there for some unknown reason. if you can help out with MK4 GTi Rims drop me a line.

I also own/run a forum ozbmx.com.au - its a pretty rad forum if you are into BMXes, its only a baby though 2400 members... and its not even 2 years old.

        peace

MK4 GTIs are pretty reliable in the grand scheme of things. Naturally there's things that do go wrong but if it's been well serviced and had the cambelt and water pump changed, it should go well for years to come.

Being on the GC you should consider getting it serviced by Jmac if you don't do your own spannering. Of course you'll need to get it chipped too
