  • VIC Golf V a water hazard

Have a Golf V done under 50,000 k's, and water leaks into the front passenger foot well. I can't wash the car, and I can't drive it in the rain without the carpet becoming saturated, and the interior showing condensation everywhere. Volkswagen at Burwin motors have had 2 attempts to fix the problem and assured me it has been fixed, but it's still leaking. I'm left with a damp smell from wet carpet, and on both occasions when it wasn't fixed, I was left with parts of the interior that were not replaced properly and have fallen off. Volkswagen Australia's response: be patient our technicians are helping the service department at Burwin motors, that customer service is paramount, we hope you and your family have many years of happy and safe motoring. There has been a problem for months. Anyone out there with the same issue?

I have a similar issue (not resolved fully yet), only in heavy rains some leaking occurs in my rear footwell. My car is getting on to 6 years old though and I bought it used, and it is a common problem in the Mk4 Golf. (and there was a thread about some one with a mk3 leaking as well) I'm surprised to hear this happening in the Mk5.

If your car is still under warranty, this is a fault and is unacceptable. A modern car should be water tight. My only advice is to keep pursing your dealer for an appropriate fix.

      Volkswagen Mark V water hazard

Thanks for the info Pauld, we also own a Mark 1V and had no problem. Some say the quality control from South Africa when making the mark V was terrible that's why Volkswagen went back to Germany for the V1. Interesting that Volkswagen Customer service are so non compliant, the new Managing Director Anke Koeckler was quoted in Go Auto.com.au as saying:
Volkswagen Australia needs improving relationships with customers...as well as dealers level of customer service. I am not so sure that Anke realises the lack customer satisfaction out there. I was intending on trading my Volvo (yes I admit to having a wagon) in for a Tiguan, but the way I've been treated, I'm thinking there has to be a better option in another make. I suppose I'm just seen as a basic customer, and don't have the clout to take on Volkswagen. With another two in the family close to buying cars, I guess if there is no resolution, they wont be driving Volkswagens
      Cheers

        Hi artsman.
Exactly the same issue with me. 2005 Golf, 40,000ks, just out of the warranty period a year ago and leak in the front passenger footwell. Dealer said it was blocked drains and "fixed" it. Was Ok for the first couple of rain showers but then leaked again. Back to dealer, said he couldn't locate the leak without stripping the car and needing at least $1200 to do so.

        Not happy Jan.

Will be writing to VW Aust to express my dissatisfaction. This car has been a lemon since day 1 and is just another problem that i've had to deal with. Lucky majority of issues have been fixed under warranty and I want them to fix this one at no cost to me. Has to be a serious design flaw in my opinion.

I'd be interested to see how your issue gets resolved.

BTW - just had to replace the entire radiator as it started leaking. Dealer said it was just age that caused the leak - IT'S ONLY 4.5 YRS OLD!!!

        Still love the car though.....
