Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hi There,

First post as compliant to the Rules

Hopefully I can progress to the Golf Mk1 page, where I would like to make a very genuine private sale offer to interested Watercooled of some hard to find enthusiast parts (BBS front spoiler and GTI wheel arch flares) left over from a previous Mk1 project.

BTW that was (since dissembled and who knows where...) a VERY serious car built using what ended up being a ridiculous amount of extras for the time....

The beauty : started life as a nice and ultra reliable red 2 door, Koni's, springs , Enkei 15x7's, full interior and new dash etc all nice and professionally done. Great car and ultra fun to drive, just seemed a bit short on mumbo..

They said "you'll never do it".... and so it went. Wild..

The Beast : ended up with full custom turbo system, Garrett T4 thru Skyline intercooler blowing thru oversize valves (32/40mm?) in US import F2 Golf engine, 3" side pipe exhaust - and no clutch could hold it (destroyed just getting off the line with even a modest boost start..) - full custom front end bracing to hold the whole thing together. 800kg drivable. 220HP.
Fun . Fast. and Firey. (had 2..) and hearing damage loud. (pardon?)

Rear window sticker said it all: "My other car is boring..."
(Porsche Club of Vic promo at that time)

Unless you ever met that car (vic regn : VWGTI) or suffered the indecency of being mauled at the traffic lights by such a toy, you had to experience it (or be treated to a joyflight) to really comprehend it.

Anyway, above is all now history - powertrain removed and exchanged for a normal one and car donated to my younger sister, who eventually sold it moving to Dubai.

Point of all this ? None really, except that I have to prove I am an enthusiast.

I'd say I've qualified, done the hard Mk1 yards (quite a few times over).

And paid more in components, mods, rebuilds and fire damage on that one than most guys spend on cars in a lifetime.

So hopefully The Hawk will let me thru

    Cheers !!

You only need to make 10 posts to use the classifieds IIRC.

    Shouldn't take long.

Welcome to the forum. Have you got pictures of the Golf before de-tune that you can post up?

    Cheers
    Gavin

Or you post it in the wrong forum and it will get moved, haha. Very sneaky!

        Hi Gavin,

Will hunt around, but that was a way back, mostly at a time when I wasn't into photos etc. Which is a pity, as it was a sweet looker and had great ride height/angle - and looking at some of the Mk1's around VWWC it makes me think about another..

Actually Victoria's Finest do have some records of it, no doubt some photographic as it wasn't EXACTLY blemish free if you know my meaning.

But I can more confidently say the hot version (in my incarnation of it) escaped without a single canary or roadworthy issue, which is just as well as it was so far over about every limit ever written that the only way to pass a RWC was jack it up and put a new one under it...
No way that would work today..

The engine came out and went to an enthusiast VW service/parts guy in Clayton just off Westall Rd, would love to know what happened to that - and if the next owner still lives to tell more tales..

        Cheers ! ~ Ex
