  • QLD NEWBIE GTI Mark 4

    Hi All,

My name is Ash and I've just purchased a 2003 GTI about 2 weeks ago and I love it!!

I'm trying to find out what mods it does have so any help would be great. I think it has some mods as exhaust is not stock and the first full tank of fuel only got me 389klm with fuel sitting at 12.5/100 klm

Welcome mate and great choice in car if do say so myself!

What fuel are you using? What sort of driving do you do? How did you measure the kms you got from the tank? It's seems unreasonably high to me. I'd start with a basic service such as oil, oil filter, ensure the coolant sensor is the new (green) type etc.

welcome. that does seem very high, in my chipped 99gti mk4 i get an average round town of 9L per 100km and about 7 on the highway..
when i first got the car (couple moths now) i chenged the oil and filter straight away. currently using castrol edge sport (fully synthetic) which is on special at supercheap for $30 a bottle at the moment (usually $54!)

      good luck with it all

        It's using premium unleaded

basically I filled it up to full tank and ran it down till fuel light came on. filled up again to full tank and filled in 54 litres.

I've worked out that it's the 110kw engine.

It's got full log books and only has 58,000k's on the clock and the 60,000 service was done before I picked up the car.

It's a mix of City and freeway driving, I have driven it a bit hard but only accelerating a bit but kepping to speed limits.

I'm a systems engineer, is it easy to hook up a laptop to the ECU to get more information about the car???

You need a VAG-COM cable and VCDS to access the ECU but there's not a full range of parameters available like in vehicles with the ME7 ECU. www.ross-tech.com Tim on the forum sells proper cables, the ebay ones are not as good even though they are mega cheap.

All GTIs are 110KW, but you can increase that if you want with a re-flash.

          And welcome to the forum

          Gavin
