  • NSW Saying hi from Sydney

    Hi All,

Craig here introducing myself. I've been lurking around this forum for quite sometime. I drive a 2003 Holden Astra SRi Turbo at the moment, which will be up for replacement soon. I almost bought a 2003 Golf GTi instead, but the Astra wasa better deal at the time.

I'm considering a Polo GTi as a replacement, and looking at a Golf GTi (Mark V) for my girlfriend at the moment. Might also consider an Audi S3 with some k's on it for the right price if one shows up...

I've had plenty of fast cars over the last 8-9 years - SS Ute, a couple of WRX's, etc. I also ride a 2002 Ducati SuperSport

    Cheers - Craig

Hey Craig welcome to the forum.

I have an 8L S3 the early one, a solid car.

You're looking at the 8P I guess, which will be about 3 times what I paid for mine.

    Cheers

    Gavin

      Hey Gavin,

I'd actually only be looking at an 8L - My budget is around $20K - budget is the downside when I have to pay for the running of a motorbike as well...

My girlfriend on the other hand, has quite a reasonable job, and no mortgage or other financed toys - so her budget can go quite higher than mine for now

I guess the thing about an 8L is the Km's are starting to get high on them - and I'm wondering how much maintenance free life is left in them. This is where my Astra SRi Turbo was a bargain - it was 1 owner, 60,000kms for $17K when I picked it up, whereas 8L's are around 100,000kms and up, plus I'd be hanging on to it for 2 years and doing 35,000kms in that time, how hard is it going to be to sell after that. This is where I think that a Polo GTi might not be a bad option - $20K get's me something pretty new for that money. I do realise though that apart from the 'newness', a Polo GTi has nothing on an S3...

I have to say one thing though - if I got a Polo GTi - i'd be sure as hell chipping it...
