Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD Tiguan owner to be

    Hi
I am definitely going to do it. My first VW is to be Tiguan 103TDI. Went for a test drive and I love it.
I was inspired by my son-in-law who is a VW mechanic to try the Tig and also to assist my research by joining the forum.
Need to sort out options and accessories as yet but have a reasonable idea on must haves. Still sorting out luxury budget (not going to a big).
Doesn't matter how long the changeover takes, it is going to seem a very slow process

Hi and welcome to the forum.

There is a wealth of information available in the offroad - tiguan section.

Welcome aboard mate! Hope you find Sanman's prices spreadsheet useful when it comes to negotiations. What sort of options did you have in mind? I'd say the Comfort Pack is a must-have. If you need any advice on the other options there are plenty of opinions in the Tig section so happy searching and reading

Yep comfort pack is one of must haves. Thinking of the "off road" pack mainly for the tyre pressure maintenance (slight concern over spacesaver) Trying not to limit myself too much on options to maximise bargaining power. The price of optional audio scares me a little and as it is not too important except for listening to audiobooks on long tours, not really looking to upgrade there. I would prefer the white I think as far as colour goes but once again won't limit too much.
We have a Aliner Avan camper which we tow with current midsized Jap sedan and are looking forward to better rear vision, better weight to tow load ratio and the deisel fuel economy. Not so much chasing off road capability but soft roading isn't out of the question.

The tyre pressure sensing woks but isn't that sensitive. You'd be better off getting a proper in-wheel TPMS rather than the Tig's one which uses ABS to work out if the diameter of the wheel is changing to warn you. If you're planning on doing some soft-roading too then I guess the offroad pack is worth it... especially as it's such a cheap option.

What is going to hurt you is the tow pack. We still seem to be waiting for a solution locally. What I don't like about the OEM tow hitch is that it's the ball. I want one of those hitches that you can insert things like bike holders into the square socket. Probably not a problem for you though.
