Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • G'day - just about to order a T5 2.5l TDI

    Hello all

Have been reading the forums with interest over the past few days as I am about to embark on a journey into diesels - never owned one before.

Have found a lot of useful info here and I'd like to thank all the contributors for it.........

Hopefully I can contribute too one day.

    Cheers!

    H.

good on ya for getting an oiler. i've had my diesel polo for about a year and a half now- not one single regret (apart from crashing it, luckily only ended up with a bent wheel).

    you'll adore the torque.

if you search around on this forum, try to learn up on some issues such as:

-exhaust gas recirculation motor/flap issues (egr deletes are well documented on tdiclub.com)
-intake manifold clogging as a result of egr gasses mixing with oil blowby from the crank case vent

when i say issues, its more of a ''be aware of different aspects of the car". neither of these have been problematic for me so far, owning a tdi has been a real pleasure. the diesel section in these forums have some punters who are very well clued up, and they're direct and logical in their answers/ discussions.

if you read the threads "let the tinkering begin" and "let the tinkering continue" you might find some useful pointers as to how the tdi's work, and how to keep at bay some of the trade-offs of a diesel engine like those i mentioned above, given that you're getting the 128kw pumpe duse tdi, is that right?

also, become a member of tdiclub.com. check out their tdi power enhancements forum. these guys are insane-garrett gt 17/22 hybrid turbos with r32 engine bay upgrades, self-tuning their cars over the obdII port, injector and lift pump upgrades etc etc. its very much over my head but you do pick up on a few things, and as they say, the prelude to greater understanding is confusion, so its great in that respect.

    welcome and enjoy!
