the reason i have joined up here is because i am looking to upgrade my system to an RNS 510 and MDI unit (behind dash version) for my Iphone connection, and would welcome some feedback from any one else that has installed this configuration.... some issues that they have found!?

Hey, when you install the MDI to the 510 you will need to code it and also change make sure you get the wiring in the correct pins as instructions can be abit mis -leading. if you get them in the incorrect pins it will work but the sound quality is poo, also you may need to code it up to the 510, with the bluetooth kit it will not work until you have coded it and the cycled the ignition and some times even locked and unlocked the car! (yes we spent a while until we lock/unlocked before it worked!! haha).

thanks for the response. When you say "code it", do you mean that i will need to use a vagcom to initialise the media button for the RNS 510? is this fairly straight forward to do?

think it will be ok with out coding, defo the bluetooth unit has to be coded.(using a VAG tool) yeh should be ok for a DIY fit as long as you have a good wiring removal tool for the pins.

Hopefully thats the case.... i don't want to have to shell out another few hundred bucks for the vag com cable. I already have the dealer fitted bluetooth parrot option, as i understand it, this will not show any contact information on the RNS 510, but will allow for calls to be made/ answered the unit. Do you think that this will still need coding?

No is should be fine, the new bluetooth systems are NOKIA now. still waiting for the kits to come through which work on the touch screen, still not yet in Aus!!!

okay... i installed my RNS 510 and MDI kit. all works well however my Parrot bluetooth is not working anymore. i tried unplugging this and hooking it up to my RCD500 and this still works correctly. When connected to the RNS, if i make a call this does mute the volume on the RNS, how ever it does not display any information on the RNS about a call, and once the call is connected there is no sound through the speakers. Does anyone have a similar setup to this or idea what might be wrong? i am wondering if it needs to be coded, although it did work find with the rns 510.
