    Hi all,

I'm picking up a Polo Gti next week and wondering how many of you declare
a chip upgrade to your insurance company. I've been getting mixed responses
    from everyone I speak to.

    Cheers

I look to the skies and see a chip war coming.....

Try the search tab mate. There's 5 bagillion threads on here about it, especially in the Polo section. You'll have to wade through the bickering and talk about how they've beaten every car they've lined themselves up next to to find it though..

Basically, there's two trains of thought.

      1. Declare it, they'll probably raise your premium or may even cancel your insurance.

      2. Don't declare it. Given that some of them aren't detectable even by a dealership service team, it's considered unlikely that you'd ever get pinged for it.

Which path you take is entirely up to you. I'm insured with Shannons, and don't believe they'd cancel my premium, so would take the first option, but every person's circumstances and appetite for risk are different, and in the end, it's your call.
      Nothing to see here...

I just had a thought.. Why not call up your insurance as someone else, but same location, car, age, you get the idea and get a quote and ask about performance mods? Hell that's what i'd do.

          Thanks guys

I think I'll go down the "better to be safe than sorry" route as I got a good price from JustCar and for the extra $200, it's not worth the hassle.

read your PDS, it should have all the information on it about modifications.

SGIO's policy for me is that you only declare if you want the cost of the mod added to your car.

it shouldnt make much difference to your policy. Just call your insurance company and ask them. "im thinking of doing this? how will it affect my insurance"
