Gooday. I have joined in my quest to become a passat cc owner. My stupid question is this - does anyone know whether it is possible to have the cc legally carry 5 people. Essentially, the car would be ideal for my wife, except that very rarely (maybe a few times per year) she needs it to carry 4 passengers a short distance. Usually there would be no need - it is just our 2 kids, but there is always the risk that they will have a friend each - therefor need 4 passenger seats. It wouldnt matter if it was uncomfortable, coz the distance would usually be less than 10km. Anyone know if it has been done?

The CC is only legal for 4 people.
As with any modification of that type, you'd need to get an additional seatbelt / seat fitted, and have it passed by a QT-approved engineer, who'd give you a modification certificate. You then take that to QT, who'd alter the registration details of the car to note that it is now legal to transport 5 people, and you'd get a modification plate to put under the bonnet...
So bottom line, if you can get a seatbelt fitted and alter the center "seat" to resemble a seat, then yes it should be possible... seems like a hiding to nowhere though if you ask me! Buy an R36 and get 5 seats from the get go.

Thanks. I'm a safety nut - comes from owning 6 volvos in the past - so there is no way that I'd cut corners. Ultimately, my missus has conceded she cant remember the last time she has had 4 passengers anyway, certainly not in the past few years, so I might not have to do it. Anyway, my car has 5 seats. Thought about the R36 but the shape didnt grab the missus. we'll see if she falls in love with the cc, and if yes, it should work out. If no, it looks like she'll be getting another volvo.
