  • Not Yet Dubbed - Greetings From WA

Hi there Dubbers I'm not into cars in a big way, my interest lies in guitars and recording music.

There's a distinct possibility that my next company car will be a MkVI Golf, my boss has given me a provisional thumbs up so I've been doing some research. The chirping of the 118TSi causes me a little concern, so I'm beginning to lean towards a 103TDi. Performance isn't an overriding factor, so the slight loss of acceleration compared with the petrol Golf doesn't bother me at all.

One of the photos in the Mk6 Picture thread was of a diesel Golf taken on the South Perth foreshore. That's less than 20 minute's bicycle ride from where I live in Como. The car looks really nice in white and that would be my choice of colour if the deal goes through. If all goes according to plan, I should be behind the wheel of a Golf in early November. Fingers crossed for me guys and guyettes.

UPDATE: I've been told "I haven't forgotten about the car" from the CEO, that's all I can tell you. There was a meeting of the Board Of Directors yesterday, and I'm hoping my request for a MkVI 103TDi was approved.

I could pop down to JH VW tomorrow and have a look at the MkVI GTI, I checked out a Polo GTI down there a couple of weeks ago. Very nice.

On the off-chance anyone else shares my interest in guitarry things:
    1973 Yamaha FG-300 acoustic
1982 Ibanez AR305AV Artist solid body
    1999 Mesa/Boogie Studio Caliber DC-2 amplifier
    2004 Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster
    2006 Fender Japan JB62-83 3TS Jazz Bass
    2008 Yamaha SAS-1500 small-body semi-hollow
    Terratec EWX24/96 soundcard
    Cakewalk Sonar 8

[UPDATE TO THE UPDATE]: Hmm, another directors' meeting today and still no definitive answer re the Golf. Incidentally, for the past couple of days there's been a red MkV GTI parked in my street. I honestly thought it was a brand spanking new MkVI it was so clean, but judging by the radiator grille, it's a MkV, and it was fitted with a tow-bar.

      [Homer] Red GTI... mmm [/Homer]

A GTI would definately sort out your chirping concerns.

        Welcome to the fold.

          Welcome the the forum Frankenstrat.

Hopefully your boss(es) sort out your car and you can be the one taking pictures on the forshore. Im a huge fan of the MkVI theyre even nicer in the metal than in pictures.

          Goodluck

If you're going to do lots of kms in a company car I recommend the TDI.

If you do, say, 25,000kms a year, the fuel savings will pay for the engine in around 18 months. (Your CEO might want to know this)

And it's lots of fun to drive.

Who needs power when you have all that torque!

Thank you one and all for your kind comments.

Philthy: don't think I haven't considered a GTI, but if I did get one, every man and his dog at work would want to borrow it "to pick up some parts for this pump I'm working on". There are enough hoons roaring up and down the road where I work without any of our boys joining in!

Kiel_GTI: thanks, I'll be down there with my camera taking happy snaps if it ever happens. Even my wife is taking an interest in Golfs now, and that's really saying something. She usually identifies cars by their colour.

jettapilot: I work in Rockingham, WA, we used to live in Kalamunda and it would take me an hour and 10 minutes each way, so I certainly would have clocked up the kms. Now we live in Como, so my journey takes between 37-40 minutes down the freeway, that's still a few kms each week. My present vehicle is a Toyota Hi-Lux WorkMate ute that barely squeezes into my garage at home. If anyone sees a white PumpTech ute driving along the Freeway, give me a toot and a wave.

Ah, right, Kiel, we used to live in Cotherstone Road, just down from the High School. The first house on the right after you pass McRae Road, we built that place, we had a beautiful garden, but it all got too much I'm afraid.

geoff_gti: well don't forget to wave when you go flying past the ute! What colour is your GTI and which side of Canning Highway are you on? I'm on the McDougall Park side of the highway, very close to the Freeway on-ramp.
