Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hello All - R36 owner in the UK

    Hi All.

My name is Rob. I own an R36 in the UK, where they don't seem very popular. Joined up because I noticed you found my video on YouTube of the 1/4 mile

Also - any idea why once I logon I can only see this newbie forum (despite having posted!) ?

From my experience in the UK, would that be due to the size (the Passat's not a small car, and many of the roads in the UK aren't terribly large-car friendly)?

As much as I loved driving the back roads between villages in a Rover 216i two-door back in the early 90s, a big car would have been significantly scary on some of those blind corners with hedges on either side of the barely-wide-enough-for-two-bicycles laneways...

With the Commodore and Falcon over here (roughly the same size as a BMW 5-series or Merc E-class), big cars are ingrained in the national psyche (love them or hate them). I'm seriously considering a Passat wagon to replace the family Outback when its time is done...

It takes a short time for the forum software to register the post and recalculate your new rights. Shouldn't be long now...

          Heya

Cheers for the reply. I must say its rather strange talking on a forum based on the other side of the world! I'm a member of loads, but they're all UK based!

I think a lot of it is our Government taxing the arse off anything slightly sporty. It costs £455/year just for road-tax on the R36 here, compare that to the £35 a year my sister pays on her Peugeot 206 2.0 HDi

Ouch! Welcome to the forum, they are great cars, I love mine. The 1/4 mile was very cool - excellent time! Was that just using Launch Control? And is the car stock?

Good to see someone in the UK has bought one! LOL...

                Hi.

Completely stock when I did the run.

It'd consistently do 13.6-13.7 on Launch Control and 14.1 if you just "stood on the go pedal" in drive.
