Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hello!

    Name: Con

Been a VW Polo owner for some time now. Previously drove a Polo Sport 1.4FSI in UK and was the dogs. Recently purchased brand new silver Polo GTI and it's even better. Words can't explain the difference (mostly power), and from day one, I knew the right choice was made for new purchase.

Joined forum to see if anyone can help troubleshoot a couple of niggling issues. Fingers crossed...

      Hey Gavin.

      I have two problems:

      1) Regular metallic type knock against driver side footwell (sounds like when you flick a ruler on a table), upon reversing out of my drive which is on slight slope, with some slight pressure on brakes.

      2) Upon pulling out of the garage this morning, found 3 drops of clear oil with a yellow tint to it.

Took the car back to dealer who says they placed it up on hoist and couldn't find anything, let alone any signs of oil. When home, jacked the car up and found sings of oil leak straight away. Leads me to believe they did nothing???

      Cheers,
      Con.

Con, #1 sounds like it's the brake pads knocking to me.

#2 I'd say that might be coolant if the car has had a change to non vw coolant. What colour is the stuff in the expansion tank.

Where do you live, we can recommend some one to check it out if you need.

Have checked all fliuds, and the only one that matches is the brake fluid. Could the knocking noise be related to a loose brake line which in-turn has resulted in a loose connection/junction and hence the leak???

            Welcome to the VWW.

If it was brake fluid I would be worried! And I wouldnt drive it either.

Where abouts under the car was the leak? I dont know if you are aware but your powersteering fluid and pump are under the battery in the wheel guard. Could the leak come from there?

Fluid seems to be coming from centre-rear of engine. When I checked myself, found it on inner cv and anti roll bar. Am just about to check it this morning and see if there are anymore presents.

                Hey guys,

Checked underneath car today, no oil drips, but didn't drive it much yeasterday anyhow. Will keep an eye on the garage floor.

Back to the footwell knocking problem, coasted down the driveway today, no brake, and no noise. Did this a couple of times, maybe a slight noise like something moving, but no knock. Might it be something directly related to the brake pedal connections on underside of car???

                Cheers,
                Con.

PS: Have booked car in for 1000km/1 month checkup at dealer this week, see what they do...

                  Complaint

I have read all your posts....
You seem to be spending more time writing threads than getting out there and driving your car. The answer to all your problems is simple. If you are so frustrated with your dealer....Dont go there!
I own an R50 Touareg and i have never ever had a problem with my Vw Dealership. As for the car washing, I find it hard to believe that a high class dealership would be so careless with washing your car, considering they wash so many cars everyday and im sure that all customers dont complain about thier car getting washed.
As for your leak, faults like that are hard to diagnose im sure. You shouldnt be asking for advice on a forum about your cars problems anyway.

Only VW Dealerships have the correct equipment and skills to safely correct any problems with your car.

                  Cheers,
                  Trevor

sorry vwpig but you'd actually be surprised how many people work for VW and/OR have been working on VW's for 20-30 years who actually visit this forum

he has every right to go to a forum and ask questions, were not all inexperienced, and gavin (h100vw) is probably the most experienced guy who has replied on this thread......

its good to hear productive opinions, but there's no need to preach on people with your own personal experiences.....

great way to join a new forum and post up a first post like that.... not many people here will take that sort of comment too well....
