Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • WA MK 1 Passat Estate

Hi, I have purchased my first VW. Actually I bought it for my daughter. We have a 1976 Passat auto wagon, it has been the daily driver of a friend of mine for the last 18 years. He just purchased a new Volvo wagon so this came up for sale. Motor is breathing a lot of oil, so I will rebuild it and then back on the road again. We also just bought a 1974 Passat manual hatch which came with lots of spares. This will be our donor car for any parts we may need as they are getting hard to find. Any one else still driving one of these??? I haven't seen any others on the road for a long time in WA.

        MK 1 Passat Estate

I'm hoping to have it rebuilt for the event in WA in December. Plan is to rebuild the engine, and respray. Currently it is rust free and really good white duco, but my daughter wants sky blue. It is one cool wagon and even though it is auto and breathing oil.... lots of oil, it still gets up and goes really well.
The donor car I just bought off ebay for $200 with spare doors, bonnet, suspension and lots more. This will be handy if any thing gets damaged in the future.

We have a manual 1976 passat 4 door LS. Its a great car, very underated in my opinion.
