Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Welcome mate. The Tiguan portion of our Off-road section seems to be more active than the Toureg side, but the only way that'll change is by guys like you contributing. What are the spec's of your beast?

Thanks for the welcome. Ours is the 2004 model that has a bagful of things included - navigation, sunroof etc, as well as having the air suspension as the V10's do. I've come from driving a Landcruiser 100 series Sahara that had similar inclusions, but this is a very different car to drive. For me it's about having more on-road handling and letting go a bit of the more extreme offroad ability. The Touareg has off-road capabilities but is limited mostly by the 19 inch rims and the fact that you can't put all-terrain tyres on it. That has all been covered in previous posts on this forum.

Welcome Nomadic. We bought our T2 with the express intention to be able to go where we had previously gone in our Rangies. Find a set of 17" Touareg rims and fit good tyres. I have just fitted Pirelli Scorpion ATRs - 245/65/17 and although I haven't gone off the beaten track yet, they are good on road/dirt. Have fun! Cheers. Geoff

Thanks for those thoughts. Tyre/rim size for V10 has been dealt with before on this forum. The V10 has 19 inch rims, 45 profile tyres, and the only smallest rim it will take is 18inch and you still can't get an all-terrain tyre for that. Brakes calipers are too big for smaller rims. All the V10 owners have been over this before. We will just be careful where we do go on the dirt with these tyres (and we will never get a puncture!!!!!!!!). At the moment its capabilities on the road outweigh off-road requirements for us.
