Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Hi from Newcastle

    Hi
I joined to ask a question re air conditioning compressor that died in my 5 cylinder petrol Year 2000 Caravelle. I am off to Germany soon, so wondered if it is worth trying to buy one there after being quoted by VW dealer about $5,000 to replace it here. But before that thought I should check with the brains trusts here on this site!
For now it is 'take' from this site but I hope to be able to 'give' in return here or elsewhere.
    Thanks
    Greg

Can't say I know too much about Caravelle air compressors, but welcome to the site.

Make your way down to the relevant section and post there, may be of greatest benefit.

Hi Greg our 1998 Caravelle is in getting a complete new airconditioner including a new compressor and a reciever dryer. They rang me today to say it will be ready Monday and the cost is $1650.00 This includes a waranty, I am on the Gold Coast so thats not much help. Dont go to VW they quoted me $7000 to restore the auto gear box and we got it done a month ago for $4700.
